The Reverend Michael E. Drea


Reverend Michael E. Drea serves as Pastor of St. Ann’s Parish and St. Brendan’s Parish, Dorchester.  Prior to beginning his assignment in Dorchester on January 11, 2016, he served as pastor of St. Paul's Parish, Harvard Square, Cambridge and as the Senior Chaplain to the Harvard Catholic Center where he directed the Catholic campus ministry at Harvard University.


Father Drea studied for the sacred priesthood at St. John's Seminary in Brighton earning a Master of Divinity and was ordained by Seán Cardinal O’Malley on May 22, 2004 at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston. At the time of his ordination he was assigned as Parochial Vicar to St. Ann's Parish in the Wollaston section of Quincy. Prior to ordination, Father Drea served as a transitional deacon at St. Mary of the Nativity Parish in Scituate Harbor.


Father Drea was born and raised in Whitman, Massachusetts and is the oldest of four children. His belief in and commitment to Catholic education was nurtured in his youth having graduated from St. Bridget's School in Abington and Cardinal Spellman High School in Brockton.


Father Drea is a loyal Boston College Eagle having earned his Bachelor of Arts in 1988 and a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration in 1994. Following his undergraduate education he engaged the financial world at The Boston Company and then began a career in institutional advancement and alumni affairs at Cardinal Spellman High School and St. Sebastian's School in Needham. In the fall of 2009, Father Drea was invested as a priest-knight in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.


Father Drea serves on a numbers of boards and committees including the Board of Trustees of St. Sebastian’s School, Needham, and St. John’s Seminary, the major seminary for the Archdiocese of Boston and on the Board of Directors of the Fellowship of Catholic University Students headquartered in Denver, CO.  Father Drea also continues to serve on the Dunster House Senior Common Room at Harvard.
